Abortions are performed at all three of Marin's hospitals: Marin General, Novato Community and Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. The county clinic refers women seeking an abortion to Planned Parenthood.

Kaiser provides nonsurgical abortions for women up to their ninth week of pregnancy using the chemical mifepristone. Kaiser limits surgical abortions in Marin to women in their first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Kaiser imposes its limit because abortions performed later in a pregnancy require more expertise.

According to a spokeswoman for Marin General and Novato Community hospitals, the vast majority of abortions in Marin are done in physicians' offices or at Planned Parenthood's San Rafael clinic. Doctors perform abortions at Marin General and Novato Community when their patients require a general anesthetic.
